The Bing Multimedia team develops advanced technologies to enable image and video search on the Web. This includes both Bing Image Search (http://www.bing.com/images) and Bing Video Search (http://www.bing.com/videos) products. Multimedia Experiences is a sub-team of Bing Multimedia responsible for end-to-end development of user-facing features with Microsoft’s image and video search engines. This includes ownership of the web services and media services that power these experiences across Bing. As one of the key drivers towards Bing user and query growth in FY12 we are looking to expand our team and continue this momentum.
Who are we looking for?
- Talented developers who are self-motivated, interested in user experience and can innovate to conquer large technical projects. People who are looking to make a big impact and get things done!
- Ability to ramp-up quickly in new areas. Some relevant skills are ASP.NET/MVC, image processing, windows 8 development, web technologies, machine learning and distributed systems.
- Familiar with CSS/HTML
- Have the good Java Script debugging skill
What will you work on?
- Create the next-gen platform and services to power experiences with images and videos across Bing
- Design, develop and ship innovative new user-facing features for Bing Image Search and Bing Video Search
- Assist in monitoring the live site to ensure rock-solid reliability and performance
- Collaboration with partner teams across Microsoft such as Windows 8, Office and Mobile

- Video answer - integrating video content intermixed with Bing web results
- Thumbnail service - Bing’s service for thumbnail serving, dynamic image processing and caching
- Webpage snapshot service - Bing’s service for generating JPEG snapshots of webpages
- Image vertical - Bing’s image search engine for discovery and exploration of images on the web
- Video vertical - Bing’s video search engine for discovery and exploration of videos on the web
- Rich captions - enhancing web results with image and video content.

STCA was founded in 2005 and is now starting the second “Five-Year Plan” after integrating with Ads Platform and Bing Mobile in 2011. The new team has not only built up its strengths and expanded its scope, but also set a shared goal, broadened its vision, and is equipped with richer resources that give the team the confidence to scale new heights.
STCA is now focusing on the following areas: the continuous exploration of Bing search technology; the technical innovation of online advertisement services; the development of the MSN social platform; and the development of mobile search applications, and the next generation of Microsoft’s speech and natural language platform. Today, STCA is the largest R&D team of the Microsoft Online Services Division outside the United States with investment plans to scale well over 460 in FY12.
