STCA was founded in year 2005 and is now starting the second “Five-Year Plan” after the merge with the Ads Platform Center in 2011. The team has not only built up its strengths and expanded its scope, but also set a shared goal, broadened its vision, and equipped with richer resources that gives the team the confidence to scale new heights.
STCA is now focusing on the following areas: the continuous exploration of Bing search technology; the technical innovation of online advertisement services; the development of the MSN social platform; and the development of mobile search applications. Today, STCA has hundreds of excellent employees and is the largest R&D team of the Microsoft Online Service Division outside the United States.

Job Description:
Our mission is to empower people with knowledge through search technologies. The Microsoft Multimedia Search Team in Search Technology Center Asia is working to provide the best multimedia search experience in the world using the latest technologies.
We are looking for a highly motivated, technical, detail-oriented, self-driven SDE. You will be a key contributor of a dev team for building a reliable video ingestion platform. You will be involved in each stage of the product lifecycle including planning, design, implementation and stabilization. You will work closely with program managers, testers, and partners to enhance our support for different video top sites. You will learn and use Microsoft engineering standards and best practice to improve the engineering excellence.
This will be a “hands on” role - you should be someone who is prepared to jump into code in any area of the product to help the team deliver new functionality or debug and improve existing features. We value passion, creativity, sound engineering practices, ownership, accountability, team collaboration and making others better.
Specific focus areas include:
- Developing innovative techniques and strategies to create a world class video ingestion system.
- Improving Multimedia Search quality and relevance, building innovative and competitive features, and developing flexible and scalable infrastructure.
Qualifications include:
- Solid CS knowledge on OS, data structure, algorithms, networking and database.
- Strong analytical ability to deal with ambiguity and to solve problems independently.
- Strong in C/C++/C# languages and database principles.
- Ability to clearly communicate concerns about code and collaborate with other developers and program managers to effectively solve software challenges.
- High level of personal accountability and “self-starter” attitude in order to make progress in ambiguous situations on schedule.
- Experience in system level software design and development.
- Experience in .Net Framework.
- Familiarity with Machine Learning, information retrieval and data mining is a plus.
