Senior DevOps Engineer

We’re looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to help us shape the future of education. This role focuses on Blackboard Learn, a product in which we pride ourselves on creating well-designed web and mobile solutions to support learners, instructors, and administrators. Blackboard Learn allows learners and instructors to access online educational experiences wherever and whenever they want through web and mobile devices.  Our technology helps instructors breathe life into educational content, brings efficiency to day-to-day tasks, and empowers instructors with tools to engage and assess every learner. We help motivate learners by promoting collaboration, communication, and connections with their peers and instructors. 

As Senior DevOps Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting an always-available cloud-based SaaS platform. Specific responsibilities will include:

• Joining a scrum team of fellow engineers following DevOps philosophies
• Working closely with engineers to support packaging, deployment, monitoring, and system reliability
• Bringing the latest tools and techniques to achieve optimal results for Cloud applications
• Identifying and driving opportunities to improve automation for deployment, management, and tooling
• Developing tools to improve efficiency and providing self-service options
• Staying up to date on the latest Cloud development and deployment technologies

 

The Candidate:

• Has experience in DevOps of large-scale web applications
• Deeply understands Agile/SCRUM practices
• Is proficient with Amazon Web Services in the China region
• Has experience with Linux in a production environment
• Has experience troubleshooting and resolving application and/or system-related issues
• Is proficient with configuration management using Chef or similar tools
• Has experience with large-scale software development processes and multi-region deployments
• Has a deep understanding of continuous integration systems (Jenkins, Bamboo, etc.)
• Can script in python or ruby
• Has excellent communication skills and is fluent in English
• Is a self-starter and collaborative team player
• Java and/or web development experience is a plus
