Summary: The U.S. Mission in Beijing is seeking an eligible and qualified applicant for the position of Telephone Operator.
Work schedule: Full Time (40 hours per week)
Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time after receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.
Supervisory Position: No
Duties: The Telephone Operator operates the telephone Private Branch Exchange (PBX) console and a computer based automated directory system. Duties are routine difficulty limited to accuracy and speed of routing incoming and outgoing calls. The Telephone Operator serves as a receptionist at the Embassy visitor entrance contact sponsoring office.
Qualifications and Evaluations
Education: Completion of high school is required.
Requirements:
EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of clerical work experience in an English speaking environment is required, and answering calls or phone operation or serving as a receptionist should be one of the major duties.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must have a basic knowledge of agency policies, procedures and practices involved in telephone switchboard operation.
Evaluations:
LANGUAGE: Level III (Good Working Knowledge) speaking/reading/writing in English is required. (This will be tested.)
Level III (Good Working Knowledge) (Fluent) speaking/reading/writing in Chinese is required.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be flexible, have a polite demeanor and have ability to deal with all callers and to work under pressure is required. Must have knowledge and use of telephone switchboard and message taking/relaying. Ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously. Exercise of judgment when performing additional duties and interacting with government officials. Must be able to work 24x7 rotating shift schedules, and basic computer skills are required.
Qualifications: All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications.
