Communications Manager, China (Stakeholder Communications) (CHI-1677-4)

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT/TEAM

The Communications department is part of the wider Marketing department within the British Council.  Marketing and Communications at the British Council is a strategic function which drives awareness, understanding and engagement across our diverse audiences. We use insight, knowledge and analysis of our market and our customers to engage them with the British Council’s international cultural relations mission, our products and services in the most impactful and effective way. We lead the development of our brand and use our expertise to tell inspiring stories to enhance our global reputation, build lifelong relationships, engage our staff and prove the impact of what we do.

 

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING AND WHY

As Communications Manager (Stakeholder Communications), you will be part of the wider communications team and will help to build the profile of the British Council through the implementation of strategic initiatives targeted at key internal and external stakeholders both in China and the UK. Working closely with the Senior Communications Manager (Stakeholder Communications), you will help strengthen our position as the UK’s cultural relations organisation, with high quality products and services that positively change lives.

This a newly created position, which means you will have the opportunity to make it your own and shape it into one that can really make an impact. The nature of the job means that you will be engaging with a variety of key stakeholders to actively position the British Council’s work at a strategic level. Working in a dynamic environment you will be able to use your creativity and strategic thinking to help strengthen the British Council’s reputation as an expert and thought leader in Education, the Arts, English and Assessment; while at the same time reinforcing our position as a cultural relations organisation that changes lives by creating opportunities.

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The Communications Manager (Stakeholder Communications) role will involve considerable interaction with a number of stakeholders and we therefore require an individual with strong interpersonal skills and a natural aptitude for managing relationships. You must have a relevant degree in communications, journalism or marketing with experience in managing communications within a large and complex organisation (preferably an international one).  Previous experience in stakeholder communications is required and it would also be advantageous if you have experience in speech writing. This role requires a native English speaker or someone who possesses the equivalent standard in both written and spoken English.

British Council China

The British Council has had a presence in China since 1943, and since 1979 we have been operating as the Culture and Education Section of the British Embassy and Consulate-Generals in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chongqing. We also opened our first English centre in Mainland China in September 2017, based in Nanjing.
