Summary: The U.S. Mission in Shanghai is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Trades Helper.
The work schedule for this position is:
? Full Time (40 hours per week)
Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.
Supervisory Position: No
Duties: Serves as a Trades Helper in one or more of the following trades, Mechanical, Electrical, Building, and Generator Repair. Position may be assigned to gardening, janitorial, escorting or porter duties when required. The mechanical trades encompass a variety of skills such as plumbing, heating ventilation air conditioning, fire suppression systems, welding, and other related tasks. The electrical trades encompass the skills of interior and exterior electrical work, minor electronics, and generator repair work and other related tasks. The building trades encompass the work associated with carpentry such as painting, locksmith, sheetrock, masonry and other related tasks. Also, will serve as the main driver for the Facility Management Section Staff to go between job sites.
Qualifications and Evaluations
Education: Completion of high school is required.
Requirements:
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year craft workshop experience in skilled trades such as mechanical (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) and Plumbing), electrical, carpentry, with significant focus on building systems and two (2) years of professional driving experience is required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must have a basic technical understanding of major building mechanical systems and equipment.

LANGUAGE:
Level 1 (Rudimentary Knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing of English is required. Level 3 (Good Working Knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing of Chinese is required.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must be able to use the typical hand tools, small handheld power tools, vacuum cleaners, gardening tools and ladders, be adept at keeping work sites free of clutter and debris, and must use good safety practices, additional abilities include responding to emergency situations in an efficient and timely manner.
Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to handle a large workload and multiple tasks, be able to take direction and must be organized, be able to lift items up to 25kg, and must have a valid driver’s license in class “B1”.
Qualifications: All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications.
