About the role:

The Open Source Software (OSS) group inside Arm China Global Services business unit has 5 teams with ~50 software engineers (continue growing) working very closely with Open Source Software Group, Architecture Technology Group, and various business line groups inside Arm, responsible for enabling and optimizing open source software stacks on Arm architecture, and providing software solutions in the areas of (but not limited to) enterprise server, networking, embedded and IoT, etc. The OSS teams are also working closely with Linaro, various open source communities, and Arm partners to help further strengthen software ecosystem on Arm architecture.

This role will be joining OSS – Enterprise Workloads team as Senior Software Engineer, and responsible for enablement and optimization of cloud storage related open source projects on Arm architecture.

What will I be accountable for?

o  Collaborate with internal/external partners to understand cloud computing related requirements on Arm servers.

o  Work with Arm internal teams and external partners including Linaro Datacenter & Cloud Group to identify missing SW code and bottleneck, enable and optimize related cloud workloads/projects/SW stack on Arm servers.

o  Work with Linaro and open source community to upstream patches and maintain code.

o  Be flexible, with a variety of software development skills and a commitment to extend the breadth and depth of knowledge.

 

What capabilities, experience, and qualifications do I need?

o  Master degree in Computer Science or Electronic Engineering, or other degree with relevant experience.

o  At least 6 years of working experience on software development and optimization.

o  Proficiency in C/C++ or Java, familiar with other programming languages, e.g. Go, Python, etc is a good plus.

o  Expertise in one or more of areas: container, OpenStack, SQL/NoSQL databases.

o  Understanding of I/O and networking and their impact on server-side application performance.

o  Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and concurrent programming.

o  Familiar with Linux performance analysis tools and system level performance tuning.

o  Experience in open source development and patch contribution process is a plus.

o  Experience with version control system, particularly Git and Gerrit is a plus.

o  Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills in English and Chinese.

o  Able to work in complex environment under pressure with teamwork spirit, effective time-management and prioritization skills.

Desired Capabilities & Experiences:

o  Experience in dealing with complex issues with open source community.

o  Good troubleshooting skills.

o  Familiar with shell script or ansible is a good plus.

o  Experience with OpenStack, or Kubernetes is a good plus.

o  Experience with databases optimization, e.g. MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra or ScyllaDB is a good plus.

o  Familiar with Arm architecture and SoC, such as concepts of pipeline, cache, MMU and NUMA, and how these hardware facts impact high-level software performance.

o  Familiar with testing methodology and test automation.
