Legal Counsel - BEIJING

PURPOSE OF THIS ROLE

• Provides legal assistance to various individuals/departments within the company as assigned, with a strong focus on Mainland China.
• Independently advises business units in English and/or Chinese on matters requiring developed legal and counseling skills in one or more specified areas of expertise.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepares drafts and final copies of legal documents and correspondence within an assigned area.
  Prepares drafts of complex legal documents and correspondence as part of a project team and modifies documents, as required.
• Identifies issues, conducts legal research, prepares memoranda, and advises internal clients regarding multiple issues within an assigned area.
• Negotiates and/or approves changes to legal documents requiring an intermediate level of expertise.
• Manages assigned projects to completion.
• Assists the Head of Legal, Asia in more complex and regional matters, as needed.
• Assists the Head of Legal, Asia with maintaining awareness of the changes in laws and regulations that affect the business and assistance with provision of advice and training to assigned business units.
• Assists with the preparation and maintenance of Asia legal templates.
• Conducts legal research, preparation of reports, presentations.
• Assists the Head of Legal, Asia in ensuring compliance and maintaining good corporate governance.
• Assists when required, with management of external counsel.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

• Qualified to practice law in the PRC.
• Able to draft in Chinese, preferably also in English. Must be able to communicate in writing in both English and Chinese. Mandarin is a must. Ability to converse fluently in English preferred.
• Five years post-qualification experience, specializing in foreign enterprise corporate commercial, intellectual property, information technology or publishing. It is preferable that the candidate has had at least two years in-house experience but is not a must.
