Essential Responsibilities
• Responsible for structural design, analysis, documentation and validation of Mining Systems structures. Structural components include housings, sealing systems, bolted joints, welded joints, coating systems, adjacent interfaces and other items as assigned.
• Synthesizes requirements from wheelmotor systems group and other subsystems to design solutions to meet overall needs of the components.
• Develops three-dimensional CAD models and FE Models utilizing business tools, reviews these models with various stakeholders to meet design review milestones.
• Coordinates with lead systems engineers, other component engineers, senior engineers, product definition, supply chain, service, quality and manufacturing as needed to document and communicate requirements.
• Assists lead systems engineer with inputs for any customer field testing required to verify and validate design.
• Participates in manufacturing process reviews, pilot builds, first article inspection, failure analysis. Executes new part and new vendor qualification projects. Directs equipment assembly and / or disassembly, documenting remarkable findings according to business needs.
• Leads the validation and component testing efforts from conception to execution of tests and disposition of material.
• Leads failure analysis and issue resolution within the assigned structural components.
• Participates in field service manual development, constructs parts bulletins. Interfaces with Services, Product Definition and Technical Publications personnel to ensure construction of high quality manuals.
• Collates information from cross-functional teams and communicates essential business information (technical design reviews, budgetary estimations, feasibility studies, field reliability exposure) to upper management, senior engineers, customers, as required utilizing approved business processes.

The Lead Engineer - Mining Structures demonstrates leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for an area or business segment. In this role you will utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals.
Qualifications/Requirements
• Bachelor’s of Science degree in an engineering, materials science, physics, or computer science discipline.
• Minimum of five years’ experience in a heavy mechanical equipment design environment.
Desired Characteristics
• Master of Science degree in mechanical, aerospace or structural engineering.
• Minimum of three years’ experience with GE Transportation mining, locomotive or wind turbine type gear unit design and test methods.
• Experience designing multiple ton steel and ductile iron castings, heavy fabrications and highly loaded threaded fasteners.
• Demonstrated experience utilizing advanced manufacturing techniques such as Additive Manufacturing.
