The senior Data Centre Specialist role is responsible for the governance, policing and control of Data Centre floors. The job holder will coordinate and manage the delivery of power, cooling, space associated with the installation of hardware/infrastructure as per the agreed location, liaising closely with IT Business units and internal stakeholders to ensure customer expectations are met, they will also coordinate and manage the change request to ensure delivery targets are achieved.
The senior Data Centre Specialist will also be responsible for managing the daily workload of Data Centre Management team, they will also perform performance management tasks, provide timely reports and effective MI.
- To ensure correct Data Centre Management process and procedure are followed always and quality maintained to provide the best service possible to both internal and external customers.
- Demonstrate and improve process by continuously reviewing for efficiency and introducing change to enhance procedure
- Identify solutions to problems and mitigates risk based on sound judgment
- Ensure that the business’ IT needs are understood and that services are tailored to meet their requirements, and also to ensure that users are fully aware of the services available and receive maximum benefit from them.
- Contribution to Regional Data Centre Management function
- Ensure consistent deployment and adherence of all standards, process and procedures within data centre(s)
- Input to capacity planning process, ensuring data integrity.
- Capital and revenue spend management for data centre(s)
- Operational Risk input as and when required
- Ensure Aperture data accuracy for data centre(s)
- Manage all installations, moves, changes and demises within site(s)
- Overall governance, policing and control of Data Centre Floor space.
- Overall Management of Audits, Disposals of hardware, environment of computer room and Data centre’s, stakeholder and relationship management, utility (space, power, cooling etc) sustainability.
- Overall Management of Stock Management, inward/outward management of equipment and materials
- 3rd party vendors and Vendor Management on regional level
- Willing to attend shift duties and overtime works in odd hours
To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:
- Experience in installation, migration and demise of IT equipment within Data Centres more than 5 years
- Proven Stakeholder and Vendor Management skills
- Demonstrated ability to rapidly build relationships with key stakeholders
- Proven experience in an IT leadership role
- A track record of delivering complex projects
- Proven successful project management and staff management
- Understanding of underpinning Mechanical & Electircal Engineering relating to critical facilities (e.g. Uninterruptible Power Supply, Generator, Gas Suppression, etc.)
- Experience in service management techniques including Problem, Change and Incident management.
- Understanding of data network and cabling technologies, principles and products
- Working knowledge of Data Centre Infrasturcture Management tools such as Aperture
- General overview as to how a computer room floor is laid out and how modern server, storage and network infrastructure is integrated
- An awareness of IT hardware, software, operations and networks
- Proven technical awareness in an IT role
- Awareness of risk management
- Be able to enforce the quality policies and processes used in HSBC
- Strong teamwork, organization, complex problem resolution, initiative
- Excellent communicatiion and interpersonal skills
- Good command in oral and written English
- PC / Office skills (Word, Excel, Lotus Notes etc.)
- Local Team leadership
- Support and mentor DCM teams in local effectively and provide guidance to drive timely and accurate project delivery.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant internal instructions (FIMs, GSMs, circulars) and external regulatory requirements, including the management of operational risk and adherence to HSBC standards of ethical behaviour.
