Position: Software Engineer_Cosmos 

Location: Beijing, China 

The Microsoft Big Data Developer Infrastructure team is looking for a talented and motivated software developer to build its metadata service for computation. The team is aiming to provide Microsoft’s massively scalable analytic platform. It’s referred to as SCOPE/Cosmos internally and U-SQL/ADL (Azure Data Lake) which is newly announced externally. With our effort, a million jobs are executing daily over petabytes of data on thousands of machines, serving as both internal backbone and future strategic bet of the company. 

You’ll be a part of small team focused on delivering metadata service throughout big data computation lifecycle. Our service provides a SQL catalog like relational abstraction layer of data artifacts and entities within Azure Data Lake, not only encapsulating variety and complexity of different data formats and sources, but also enabling interoperability with other tools and platforms. Furthermore, the service is responsible for storing and extracting metadata through job compilation, optimization and execution. This position offers an opportunity to learn and participate in the cutting-edge research in the field of big data management and analytics. 

The ideal candidate should be curious about massively distributed systems, comfortable with evaluating the existing state of the art research, capable of designing novel complex algorithms, attentive to customer needs, and open to uncompromising support of the production services. The candidate needs to be highly self-motivated, result-oriented, and capable of driving a project from beginning to end. 

Specific requirements: 

?BS or higher degree in computer science or equivalent. MS or PhD is a plus. 

?Background in designing and development of databases or complex distributed systems. 

?Strong problem solving and coding skills. 

?3 years’ development experience and be fluent in one of the major languages: C, C++, C#, or Java 

?The ability to fully understand problem spaces and independently drive areas forward 

?Ability to deal with ambiguity and work in collaborative fast pace e***ironment.
