Job Description

Based at the company in China, Shanghai , as a Senior Electric Machine Design Engineer, you will join an existing team working in the development and integration of electric machines, into hybrid & electronic systems. Your primary responsibilities will include:

• Electrical machine design, with an instinctive approach to using your broader engineering skills across the department supporting projects at a systems level or in areas such as mechanical, thermal or electronic design
• Working with clients, leading activities in electric machine design, delivering electromagnetic designs across a range of projects and holding responsibility for the electric machine development processes
• Working with the team on power electronics and control software
• Authoring validation plans for electric machines including support of virtual and physical tests where applicable
• Support others to improve their electromagnetic design capability
• Support the sales and delivery teams through client interaction, proposal support and roadmap development

Personal Profile

You are degree qualified in and Engineering or Science related discipline and will have an engineering background in electric machines, including a number of years of experience of successfully delivering projects in a customer facing, automotive or equivalent industry. Crucial to your success will be:

• Your good grounding in eMachine systems, including experience in the development of electric machine systems and understanding the systems level issues associated with integration of power electronics and machines
• Your experience in requirements capture and system level design approach
• Your excellent knowledge of 3D finite element / multi-physics analysis for eMachine design
• Your understanding of thermal systems and impact on realisation of designs
• Your active interest in new technology and developments in electric drive systems and developing further cross eDrive skills in advanced control and power electronics.
• Your excellent interpersonal and customer facing skills, including high standard of written English.

Knowledge and experience in the following areas is highly beneficial:

• Postgraduate qualification (MSc, PhD or equivalent)
• Electromagnetic analytical and FEA software (e.g. Speed, MotorSolve, MotorCAD EM and Opera, JMag & Ansys)
• Productionisation of designs
• Developing 2D manufacturing drawings from 3D models
• Development and use of process driven development of electrical machines
• Matlab scripting and C programming, especially in the area of multi-programme simulation (e.g. running FEA models from Matlab and using the output for simulation)
• Desire to work in a consultancy environment with a breadth of projects utilising skills but away from core areas of expertise
• Ability to lead small engineering delivery teams
• Willingness to travel to worldwide customer sites as required
• Thermal Design and Power electronics understanding
• DFMEA for Electrical Syste
