PURPOSE

  

Working under minimal supervision of the Management of Bioanalytical Lab, the Scientist 2 is responsible for developing and validating rugged bioanalytical methods for more challenging assays with application in sample analysis, operation of LC/MS equipment and complies with Quintiles procedures and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) requirements, as applicable

  

  

RESPONSIBILITIES

  

？ .Participate in routine sample analysis and method validation experiments

  

？ Independently develop bioanalytical methods for more challenging projects with input from senior scientific staff to support regulated, fit-for-purpose or discovery bioanalytical projects..

  

？ Perform fundamental LC/MS operations to include:

  

o LC (typically HPLC) system setup.

  

o mass spectrometer calibration, tuning and optimization.

  

o routine LC/MS analysis

  

o chromatographic peak integration

  

？ Perform advanced LC/MS instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs.

  

？ Make and record observations to facilitate efficient method development and validations.

  

？ Document all project work according to Quintiles processes and procedures.

  

？ Communicate progress and status to the Bioanalytical Lab Management as necessary.

  

？ Strengthen knowledge in chromatographic and mass spectrometric techniques.

  

？ Participate in client communications.

  

？ Train and mentor lower level scientists

  

？ Provides timely and appropriate feedback to the Bioanalytical Lab Management pertaining to the performance of lower-level scientists.

  

？ Meet responsibilities and study objectives according to tight timelines.

  

？ Function as scientific resource, including training, assisting in troubleshooting, and participating in scientific initiatives.

  

？ Prepare biological samples (plasma, serum, urine, tissue, etc) for LC-MS/MS analysis by solid-phase extraction, liquid-liquid extraction, protein precipitation, etc.

  

？ Utilize laboratory equipment including micropipettes, automated extraction instrumentation, centrifuges, glassware, notebooks, etc.

  

？ Prepare stock and working solutions and QC samples.

  

？ Weigh reference compounds if respirator-certified.

  

？ Assist in maintaining adequate supplies.

  

？ Maintain housekeeping standards for work area.

  

  

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  

？ Knowledgeable in chemistry and/or biology.

  

？ Highly experienced in all routine laboratory procedures.

  

？ Competent in routine LC/MS techniques.

  

？ Thorough knowledge of chemistry involved in method development procedures.

  

？ Ability to complete documentation per Method Development requirements.

  

？ Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.

  

？ Ability to analyze method development data and make sound conclusions on subsequent steps.

  

？ Ability to develop and present well organized Prevalidation Committee Meeting presentations.

  

？ Ability to perform accurate and precise processing of biological samples.

  

？ Ability to follow written and oral scientific directions.

  

？ Ability to work well with others and independently.

  

？ Ability to adhere to Standard Operating Procedures.

  

？ Ability to think creatively and analytically solving method development challenges.

  

？ Ability to multitask and maintain an organized work area.

  

？ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, managers and clients.

  

  

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  

？ Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or a related field with 3 years’ experience including experience in LC/MS method development; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience in bioanalytical laboratory environment.
