WORK HOURS: Full-time; 40 hours/week (Shift Rotations)

GRADE: Not-Ordinarily Resident: FP-BB USD 23,045 p.a.

(starting salary, final grade will be determined by Washington)

Ordinarily Resident: FSN-3 RMB 79,939 p.a.

(starting salary includes allowance and bonus)

LOCATION: The incumbent may be assigned to work at the primary Consulate location or one of the Consulate’s off-compound facilities in Shanghai.

The U.S. Consulate in Shanghai is seeking seven eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Guard with the Regional Security Office.

Note: Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.

IMPORTANT: Applicants claiming a U.S. Veteran’s preference must submit written documentation confirming eligibility (e.g., Member Copy 4 of Form DD-214, Letter from the Veteran’s Administration, or certification documenting eligibility under the VOW Act with an expected discharge no later than 120 days after the certification is submitted) by the closing date of the vacancy announcement. If the written documentation confirming eligibility is not received in the HR office by the closing date of the vacancy announcement, the U.S. Veteran’s preference will not be considered in the application process. BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

Local Guard Force ( LGF ) personnel are responsible for perimeter security at all primary Consulate facilities mainly in the form of access control for employees, visitors and vehicles.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item. Applicants who fail to do so, or who do not meet the position’s required qualifications, will not be considered for this position.

Education:

  • Completion of secondary school is required.

Experience:

  • One (1) year security and protective services is required

    Language:

  • Level II (Limited Knowledge) English is required.

  • Level II (Limited Knowledge) Chinese is required.

Job Knowledge:

  • Must have working knowledge of security-related equipment (can be gained via on the job training) and good understanding of Department of State (DOS) and Post security operation procedures and Local Guard Force (LGF) Handbook.

Abilities and skills:

  • Must be in sound physical and medical health and able to handle physical tasks commensurate with the job and the lack of physical or mental agility is grounds for disqualification.
