The U.S. Consulate in Guangzhou is seeking an eligible and qualified applicant for the position of Trades Helper within the Facilities Management Office (FAC).

ALL ORDINARILY RESIDENT (OR) APPLICANTS (See Appendix A for definition) MUST HAVE THE REQUIRED WORK AND/OR RESIDENCY PERMITS TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION.
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
The Trades Helper assists in one or more of the following trades, Mechanical, Electrical, Building, and Generator Repair. The Trades Helper may be assigned to gardening, janitorial, escorting or porter duties when required. The Trades Helper uses hand and power tools to perform the lower skilled tasks of the trade involved; delivers tools supplies, and materials to the job-site; cleans tools, equipment, and work areas. The Trades Helper may need to drive a light truck or van to transport tools and materials to and from the job-site, and also perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item. Applicants who fail to do so, or who do not meet the position’s required qualifications, will not be considered for this position.
Education:
? Completion of elementary school is required.
Experience:
? A minimum of 6 months trades and craft workshop experience is required.
Language:
? Level I (Rudimentary Knowledge) speaking/reading/writing in English is required.
? Level II (Limited Knowledge) speaking/reading/writing in Chinese is required.
Knowledge:
? Must have or readily develop a general knowledge of various tools and their uses in the building trades.
Abilities and skills:
? Must be able to lift items up to 25 kg. (This will be tested) A driver’s license is required.
SELECTION PROCESS: When qualified, applicants who are U.S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and/or preference-eligible U.S. Veterans are given a preference in hiring. Therefore, it is essential that these applicants make themselves known as having a hiring preference and specifically address the required qualifications above in their application.
