Position: General Legal Counsel
Reporting line: CFO
Working location: Beijing
 
Position Summary:
This role will be responsible for providing leadership, guidance, direction, and assistance in connection with a wide variety of legal, regulatory, compliance, and business matters for company.
 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
· Gaining a solid understanding of the businesses of company , their goals, and challenges and identifying appropriate legal and compliance strategies to facilitate those goals and minimize those challenges
· Being a good business partner
· Negotiating, strategizing, documenting commercial transactions, contracts, and other legal arrangements including distribution and sales agency transactions
· Assisting with the development and implementation of policies and programs relating to anticorruption and compliant business practices
· Developing appropriate approaches to dispute resolution, lawsuits, and arbitrations; providing regular, clear communication of litigation issues and opportunities to the affected business and legal function
· Working with the global compliance team to identify and mitigate compliance risks and develop appropriate countermeasures. Conduct compliance-related investigations and implement action plans to remediate identified issues
· Educating business leadership on the appropriate use and “leverage” of in-house counsel
· Assisting HR colleagues with labor law support
· Assisting Quality and Regulatory Affairs colleagues with regulatory law support
· Selecting appropriate outside counsel and working closely with them
· Willing to work on the smallest and simplest, as well as the most complex, legal matters faced by the company

· Must be an excellent lawyer, able to explain complex legal points to business leaders with varying degrees of sophistication about legal matters; able to take business leaders’ concerns and demands into account in how best to pursue legal strategies
· Must understand how to transform compliance requirements to business advantage, not impediment
· Intelligent and articulate; nimble and quick-minded; able and willing to engage in debate; unwilling to accept unethical conduct or outcomes that threaten reputation
· Business-minded, facts and numbers driven with a collaborative approach
· Ability to balance numerous matters and “masters” while prioritizing same on a day-to-day basis as events require; ability to adapt to a face-paced and high-performance and lean environment with a relentless culture of continuous improvement
· Able to command the respect of, and influence, business leaders, and outside counsel across a wide spectrum of experience, sophistication and cultural differences
· Be able to work effectively with lower-level employees, yet communicate with effectiveness at the most senior levels
· Tough-minded and firm on the principle, but able to be flexible in tactics/execution, able to think on feet, ability to engage in critical discussion without personalizing outcomes
· High integrity and ethics in all dealings – internal, external, and personal; non-political in conduct, while understanding internal and external political dynamics

Education & Experience:
· A law degree from a well-recognized Chinese, U.S., Australian and/ or European law school
· Extensive exposure to and success in a dynamic business environment. Minimum of five years of practice
· Law firm experience, preferably international, or equivalent in-house experience, or combination of the two
· Substantial responsibility in various areas of law and/or business
· In-house experience preferred; some experiences that suggest an ability to hit ground running in a complex, matrixed organization is a must
· Fluency in Chinese and English
