PURPOSE OF POSITION:
As a key member of the Technical Services Team, the Technical Specialist, Industrialized Construction, contributes to the success of the China Enterprise by providing technical expertise to strategic business partners and local stakeholders to expand opportunities for wood building systems in construction.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Technical Specialist develops technical expertise and related technical materials of prefabricated wood building components and systems. He/she provides technical supports to business development and other functions to achieve overall business goals related to prefabricated wood building components and systems.
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE AND ADVICE:
? Develops technical design and specifications of prefabricated wood building components and systems such as wood infill wall by collaborating with My client’s team, external business partners and other technical resources.
? Provides technical expertise and consulting for designers, builders, manufacturers, system holders on use of prefabricated wood building components and systems.
? Develops technical manual and guideline on prefabrication of wood building components and systems.
? Participates in technical conference, seminars and meetings, industry events, trade shows and other events, offering technical information, making presentation, as required.
? Suggests collaborative technical research and commercial trial projects to support strategies for technology localization and other relevant programs/initiatives as required;
? Other duties as required.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT, PROMOTION AND TRAINING:
? Manages technical research and demo projects and participates in case studies conducted within demo projects or projects conducted in collaboration with business partners.
? Provides support to My client’s Education team on developing and delivering relevant training courses to local engineers, designers and builders.
? Provides support to development of technical literature and promotional materials and other My client’s materials as required.
? Provides technical input on business development and market research projects.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
? Civil Engineering, Architectural or science degree from a reputable Chinese Post-Secondary Institution (or equivalent combination of study and work experience);
? Minimum 5 years of experience in building product or system design or development in a construction or building material manufacturing related industry; Experience in technical research, or technical marketing is a plus.
? Substantial experience in working with code and standard development organisations, design institutes, construction companies and building system holders.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
? Good knowledge of Chinese building construction industry, building systems, codes, standards and practices. Knowledge of modern WFC and materials, energy efficient wall products and manufacturing is preferable;
? Strong understanding and existing network of business contacts and relationships in China’s construction sector;
? Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, displaying diplomacy, leadership and professionalism;
? Strong project management knowledge, planning, coordinating and organizational skills;
? A self-starter with demonstrated ability to work on your own and in a team environment;
? Ability to assess priorities and work within a fast-paced work setting;
? Good command in English and Mandarin, both written and oral;
? Demonstrated research, analytical and problem solving skills;
? Able to prioritize own workload and take initiative;
? Good understanding of and experience dealing with foreign enterprises in China would be an asset;
? Some travel will be required.
