The game of sales is a challenging one. Within our Global Research Solution Sales (RSS) division, we are currently looking to recruit a Sales Director who is responsible for all the productlines of our research information management database, in China and Hong Kong.
The Sales Director manage the overall sales strategy and lead a team of over 30 people . In order to be successful, the Sales Director will know everything about research information management and the competing products in the market.

The SSM works with regional and global Research Intelligence sales team across different regions/territories to prospect for research information management database, he or she is responsible for driving the technical engagement with the prospect to close the sale and manage renew business with existing customers . Close cooperation with the regional and global sales management team is key to drive upsell and cross-sell opportunities for the fulfillment of overal sales targets.
Your division/department
The Research Intelligence team focusses on addressing the needs of the research offices within Universities and stand-alone research institutions, as well as answering key decision-makers questions from funding bodies and governmental organizations. The research information management space is a rapidly growing market in which the prospects are gradually gaining more experience and interest. Competition is present but Elsevier research information management database are a strong leader. The China RSS team works with a good team spirit, collaborates and likes to keep each other sharp: you will be highly supported in your endeavors and also challenged as we always try to do better. The position needs to be based in Beijing with Shanghai as a backup location and reports to the Managing Director leading the whole business strategy and operations in China/Hong Kong.
Your responsibilities
1. Achieve revenue and growth objectives
? Develop sales strategy and plan to win new business, gain market share, retain and improve on existing business
? Be accountable for the business’ top line revenue growth and profitability margins
? Evolve the strategy to ensure the company has effective process for looking into the future and making sound decisions about markets, products, customers, suppliers and partners
? Is responsible for revenue budgeting and forecasting through active pipeline management and reporting
? Strategize and lead major contract negotiations
2. Representative of Elsevier
? Represents the company as the external face and spokesperson to government & regulatory bodies, press & media, and partners
? Establish and market the company’s image as an ethical, professional, world class and leading company
? Build strong and high profile relationships and networks with key customers to deepen our understanding of user and customer needs in order to meet these needs and facilitate sales outcomes.
3. Operational Effectiveness
? Put in systems, process and tools that improve sales performance, productivity and customer respond speed
? Be the key point person in China to liaise with various vertical teams and support functions in the region and globally.
? Be in charge of overseeing and coordinating activities within China to ensure the whole office work as a cohesive unit
4. People Manangement
? Create a positive team culture, build trust and collaboration among team memebers
? Enable effective delegation and development of staff (right skill set, talent review, succession planning)
? Enable key performance measures (PDP) to ensure that the goals of the business unit are achieved
? Build and groom a high performance sales and marketing team
What you should bring
? At least over 15 years experience in Sales, Marketing, Product & Business Development capacities in a multinational company
? Ability to manage complex businesses with a strong execution focus in a highly matrixed environment
? Experience in leading a sizable team, with a proven track record in driving sales performance as well as people development
? Expert knowledge of China market with experience selling into Enterprise, Corporate, Education and Government sectors
? Familiar with selling content, license, products and services
? A quick learner and is curious to continuously learn and improve
? Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Mandarin
? Disciplined, well-organized & sets high standards of delivery

? Networking at a very senior level
This job requires frequent travelling to diverse locations across your territory (around 50% ) and occasionally to the research information management database offices in Europe and the US.
