MAJOR FUNCTION:

The Project Engineer is directly responsible for product development (product definition, product design, and product design verification, and product development) of new reels (spincast, baitcast, & spinning), fishing accessories (pliers, tackleboxes, etc) and new packaging products. The Project Engineer is required to develop plans and maintain schedules to ensure on-time delivery of product. The Project Engineer will be responsible for the design of mechanisms or products of complex nature and sustaining engineering support of existing product. The Project Engineer is responsible for maintaining and leading the needed technical support and assistance for the engineering functions at Oceanview and 3rd party suppliers.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

* During the New Product Concept Phase, work directly with industrial design, marketing, and sales personnel to translate market needs into specific, definable product requirements. Product models, product features, product performance (i.e., Qualification Test) requirements, product appearance, packaging configurations, and cost targets must be defined in a manner that can be verified during later Phases of the project.
* During the Design Phase, utilize PRO-ENGINEER CAD software to create solid model designs of the complete final product and to collaborate with other project engineers at Zebco and 3rd party suppliers to develop final product models. Each mechanical system must be designed to meet the defined requirements, and each component must be efficiently and accurately represented by a solid model and a fully dimensioned or keynote drawing. The Project Engineer must have the ability to accurately and completely document their design, per the latest Zebco New Product Development process..
* During the Design Phase, the Project Engineer is responsible for verifying their design meets ALL the requirements defined during the Concept Phase. Detailed tolerance analysis, Finite Element Stress Analysis, Kinematics Analysis, creation and testing
* During the Design Phase, the Project Engineer is expected to work directly with suppliers, and other relevant parties, to ensure the components, sub-assemblies, and final product can be consistently produced to the defined requirements.
* During the Tooling Phase, the Project Engineer will work with suppliers to ensure the tools are capable of consistently providing components that meet the design requirements.
* During the first-off-tooling stage, the Project Engineer will work with the supplier to evaluate parts, recommend tooling modifications, and test parts/product to ensure the product meets all requirements and approve tooling.
* During the production start-up phases, the Project Engineer will support the suppliers with quality and technical assistance to ensure the final product consistently meets the previously defined requirements.
* Once a product is in production, the Project Engineer should be aware of the products successes and/or failures in the marketplace by requesting Sales (Actual vs. Forecast) data, Warranty Return Data, and Consumer Contact Data (Phone Calls, Letters). If design issues are discovered that create unsatisfied customers in the marketplace, the Project Engineer must ensure the design changes are identified and implemented to correct the problems.
* The Project Engineer is responsible for researching and developing marketable, innovative, patentable ideas for new product applications.
* The Project Engineer is expected to be constantly aware of the competition’s position in the market by working with marketing/sales, doing competitive analysis/teardowns, material evaluations, and by working with consumers, guides, and field testers. The Project Engineer is expected to review and understand competitor patents to ensure that Zebco and/or supplier designs do not infringe them.
* The Project Engineer is responsible for applying cost reduction ideas to existing products to reduce the overall product cost.
* The Project Engineer is required to maintain accurate, complete, and current design documentation (PRO-E model files, drawings, engineering part lists, product artwork, etc.) on the assigned projects. Design changes must be documented, approved, implemented, and appropriately conveyed to all affected parties.
* The Project Engineer must be capable of evaluating alternate design options based on established objective criteria. This analysis capability also applies to the review of competitive product and ability to define advantages and disadvantages of competitive product designs.
* The Project Engineer must be able to find and complete the necessary design calculations for cams, springs, forces, loads, stresses, gears, bearings, etc.
* Extensive international travel and daily interaction/communication with international suppliers is required.
* The Lead Project Engineer will be responsible for on-time delivery of assigned products. Therefore, they must work with all relevant departments, during all phases of development.
* The Lead Project Engineer must live and demonstrate W.C. Bradley Co. values.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education / Experience:
* Minimum of six (6) years of experience in product design, technology development, and product development in complex supply chains.
* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or related technical fields. Knowledge of fishing category and/or seasonal outdoor category preferred
* Experience managing multiple projects with international companies in China

Skills & Abilities:
* Good communication skills
* Good English for reading, writing. Speaking is a plus
* Problem solver
* Design skills utilizing CAD software and data management (Creo&Windchill preferred)
* Competent computer skills in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)

Travel
* Ability to travel, domestically and internationally
