Job Title: Regional Segment Lead, APAC & Emerging Asia, Research SMI





Location: APAC or Emerging Asia (China or Singapore preferably)





Reports to: Head, Segment Marketing, APAC & Emerging Markets, Research SMI





Required Travel: 30-50% or as needed





Job Description:



As part of the Global Strategic Marketing Team, the Regional Segment Lead will be responsible for driving focussed efforts to grow Merck’s Research Business in APAC and Emerging Asia (Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam). The team and individual are responsible for maximising long-term value of the portfolio and segments, enabling technology and portfolio development efforts, and providing input on portfolio



and segment strategy within the APAC. They will work closely with the Global team to develop global initiatives, and with the regional and local Commercial partners to localise and/or execute these initiatives within the covered geographies & regions.





Key Responsibilities:



Drive growth in focus geographies



Identify & characterise growth drivers in focus geographies



Leverage global strategies for defined Research customer segments (Academia, Pharma, Emerging Biotech) to create focussed geography strategy



Coordinate with regional and local marketing teams to implement strategy



Evaluate long-term growth opportunities for the APAC & Emerging Asia regions



Support “Arena Team“ efforts



Complete competitive analysis in focus geographies



Facilitate technology scouting efforts in focus geographies



Support/execute training efforts





The successful candidate will exhibit the following:



Self-motivated, able to work independently with little supervision/direction within a team based in different countries/regions? comfortable being part of a global team



Comfortable leading and/or working with multi-functional and cross-cultural teams/activities



Strong strategic sense with a focus on details/ability to develop and execute a tactical plan



Customer-facing experience



Established relationships in relevant geographies; good relationship-building skills



Understanding of local go-to-market and distribution dynamics



Willing to travel internationally up to 50% of time (or more, as necessary)





General skills required:



Ability to speak Mandarin is desired but not required



PhD in any Biology discipline is desired but not required



Previous experience in a local head of marketing/sales role or any relevant regional role is desired but not required
