Speech Scientist/Engineer (Microsoft China - Beijing)

The Speech at Microsoft Core team is looking for engineers/scientists in Beijing with a background in speech recognition to provide technical direction, supervision, oversight and take technical responsibility for the continued language expansion of Microsoft's speech platform.

Speech is one of Microsoft's most exciting initiatives - it is driving the adoption of Natural User Interfaces (NUI) as it becomes more accurate and its application becomes more useful - especially for user experiences in UC, search and entertainment domains. At the foundation of speech software and services is technology that enables those experiences, it is the "engine under the hood", that powers our network services, clients and devices. Core Speech helps makes possible voice features in Enterprise, Client and Mobile products and particularly in the Tellme voice platform that powers IVR/DA and Bing. To bring these experiences to the world we need engineer/scientists who are ready to take on the challenge of a world ready speech platform.

We are looking for a motivated driver with a Speech Technology Development or research background that is characterized by contributions to either commercial or academic speech recognition systems. You will be familiar with and have had hands on experience with many of the processes and techniques related to:

- Specification, Development and Tuning of

Lexicons & Pronunciation Dictionaries

Language Models

Acoustic Models

- Engineering for Language specific issues

- Development of Text Normalization

- Accuracy Tuning

- Acceptance Testing

Using our team's mature platform and tools you will work with our Speech Science and Platform teams as well as our Application teams to ensure that the speech models built and delivered meet the needs of the partners and markets in which they are being delivered.

Essential attributes and competencies include: Ability to translate complex processes in to a repeatable model producing high quality results, excellence in thinking and execution. A passion for the new user experience paradigms incorporating speech technologies. The ability to drive end-2-end SR system diagnosis and quality investigations as it relates to planned language and product releases for new Microsoft products and services. Desire for cost-effectiveness improvement.

Additional qualifications for this position include:

- MSc or PhD in CS/EE (with focus in one or more of Acoustic Modeling, Language Modeling or Speech Applications) or equivalent experience.

- Experience with HTK or similar Speech Modeling tool set

- Analytical and Diagnostic Skills related to Speech Model optimization

- 3+ years of Speech R&D in an Academic or Commercial setting.

- Software development skills, aptitude for process design.

- Ability to program in scripting languages.
