Microsoft Ad Platform China team is looking for an experienced data mining researcher (or analyst) to be part of its premium targeting team to provide applied research and data analytics expertise in this area. This is an exciting position, providing the candidate two major opportunities: 1) gain biz insight through deep marketplace analysis; 2) solve high industry impact business problems in the online advertising space using information retrieval, machine learning, data mining and statistical methodologies.
Ad Platform China team is part of Microsoft OSG (Online Services Group), based in Beijing and focuses on providing user and content intelligence to online markers, publishers and agencies. Premium targeting is a major source of revenue for Microsoft display advertisement worldwide.
Job Responsibility:
- Apply data mining, machine learning and statistics to understanding the user online behavior while respecting privacy, inferring user interests and intent, as well as measuring user engagement with online advertising and campaign effectiveness.
- Generate actionable insights for improving MS audience targeting business, including innovation on both product offerings and technology advancement for high quality targeting capability
- Design, carry out and analyze experiments to evaluate research results.
- Act as an expert in the area of data mining, machine learning, statistics, analytic in broader organization and provide technical leadership to others in the Advertising Data Mining team.
- Build high quality data mining and analysis solution on specific biz problems.
Qualifications:
- MS degree or PHD (preferred) in statistics, machine learning, mathematics, or related field (or the equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Expertise in at least two of the following areas: statistics, user modeling, data mining, web mining, machine learning, business intelligence & customer intelligence, information retrieval, data warehousing, e-metrics/measurement, parallel and distributed computation (three or more areas are preferred).
- Extensive academic or industry experience in applying above expertise to large scale real-world data to solve real business problem.
- Strong analytical skills and experience working with complex technical systems.
- Ability to work independently and in a team to develop innovative solutions.
- Hands-on approach to data analysis, attention to detail and a strong focus on quality.
- Good coding (e.g. C/C++/C#/SQL) and rapid prototyping skills.
- Good communication and organizational skills, ability to quickly engage with internal and external partners and drive to results
- Relevant experience in online business and digital marketing, including audience targeting, search and ads, personalization, social media, is a plus.
