2. Major Responsibilities:
Focus on enhancing the reputation and integrity of the company. As a strategic communications function, this position supports the overall business growth through external and internal communications, media relations, issues management, social media programs, third-party partnerships, management of external vendors/PR agencies and digital communication activities. Support various Corning business units with strategic communications counsel and media coaching/training, as necessary.

Ongoing Tasks:
- Lead in development of communications team, strategy, policy, process, planning, budgeting, and direction.

- Direct and manages key components of annual Regional Meeting, provides updates to China Business Council members, Executive Communications and Special Communications projects.

- Serve as point of contact/liaison between Corning operations in Greater China and all national, regional and local Chinese-based media. Manage design and execution of company media relations’ strategy, including print and broadcast news and inquiries, drafting of responses, standby statements, media training, and media escort. Work with 3rd party groups to develop communications programs.

- Regional lead on crisis communication management.

- Build overall brand awareness for Corning Incorporated in the Greater China Region. Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities, providing strategic thinking to assist senior management in planning and execution of regional communications programs.

- Develop and maintain internal and external contacts to ensure effective integration of marketing communications into product line and marketing management to continually test the validity of communications recommendations.

- Benchmark and measure the effectiveness of “selling messages” marketing communications projects and programs.

- Design and implement strategies and plans that position Corning Incorporated as a responsible corporate citizen within the region.

3. Key Goals/Objectives
The short-term key objectives include:
- Drive a Corning China communications strategy that is aligned with corporate, business and function objectives.
 
- Continue to deploy and improve existing corporate communication programs in region.

- Support commercial objectives of regional leadership and Corning Business Units.

The long-term objectives include:
- Establish a sound Corporate Equity and project a positive corporate image in the marketplace.

- Partner with business leaders and senior management to achieve the annual communication objectives and overall vision.

4. People Responsibilities:
- Lead the communication organization in China.

- Inspire and develop sub-ordinates to ensure professional delivery on all programs and grow the talents of the China communications team members.

- Maintain close partnerships with China leadership, Asia Pacific and corporate communications colleagues.

1. Required Skills:
Personal:
- Very self-assured with outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to successfully champion external corporate communications, and lead public relations affairs.

- Proficiency with all roles (i.e. leader, coach, supporter, etc.) in a “project team” oriented environment is a critical personality attribute.

- Proficient in weighing and balancing competing priorities from diverse, but aligned departments. Candidate must excel at creative innovation in all professional applications.

- A breakthrough strategic thinker with a good sense of humor, a team player, open-minded, creative and innovative, a quick learner, entrepreneurial and culturally sensitive.

Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, business, or related discipline. (MBA or business related advanced degree is a plus).

Experience:
Eight (8) to ten (10) years’ working experience in the communications or marketing field with minimum of five (5) years management experience in a multinational company or PR firm. Extensive media relations and crisis management experience is required.

- Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills. Excellent written and verbal presentation skills.

- High performance standards and work ethic—demanding of him/herself whatever is required to accomplish the job.

- Superior strategic/creative abilities

- Intuitive ability to inspire sub-ordinates, peers, superiors, media, and others to achieve a common company vision and to be the company’s voice.

- Intelligence and ability to easily lead others in complex conceptual thinking and to follow comfortably along.

- Outstanding interpersonal skills with individuals from all cultures and levels of experience.

- Experience in managing staff/budgets and supervising agencies/freelancers.

- Experience dealing with national and local media. Proven success in this area.

- Language skills including fluent Mandarin and English.
