About the Organisation:
Our client invents new products, brands, services, and business models, and we help partners build their in-house innovation capabilities.

Job Description:

- Our Inventors work with clients across an exceptionally wide range of industries and sectors. Our clients are all focussed on making change in their business by inventing new products, new services or new approaches to business problems. Inventors facilitate that change and bring to bear their experience and support.


Key Responsibilities:

- The Partnership:
Creates conditions for client partners to thrive and excel in the world of innovation, including:
Building relationships beyond current engagements
Being aware and proactive about the client agenda overall
Owning day to day client interactions
Driving our Love value in its true sense and taking on tough conversations with clients when necessary
- The Thinking:
Embraces the task of pushing our thinking forward, including:
Synthesizing and adeptly articulating (written, spoken) our point of view and the broad story of the project
Pushes the client team beyond the obvious in a persuasive way
Utilizing a personal foundation of the 3 inventing core skills (insight, ideas and commercial sense) to push strategy and ideas forward and manage the day-to-day of any core project with minimal Director support
- The Magic:
A captivating leader who can own a deliverable’s outcome (whether session, meeting or written document), the client experience and the energy of the experience (whether a session room or written document) all at once
- The Foundation:
Understands the economic fundamentals of our business and knows how to sell, cost, plan, budget and work profitably. Has the experience to predict how a project is going to run, the foresight to adjust the plan in advance, and can manage resulting client conversations
- How a Lead Inventor leads the organization:
Ambassador has the ability to sell our work to potential clients, partners and candidates. Is a visible leader and role model within the business
- Above & Beyond Collaborator:
Creates the bandwidth to collaborate with others and take part in internal initiatives beyond project work. Takes principles of project work and applies it to creating IP
- Proactive developer:
Looks out for opportunities for the business and for its people. Looks to grow the skills of other inventors, takes time to coach project teams/mentees. Surfaces issues to mentors or project leads
- Self Advances:
Turns a lead into a business development opportunity that they can land with broader Compass support
- How a Lead Inventor leads him/herself:
Owns own path: takes the reigns on his/her own career path and development, incorporates feedback and direction from senior leaders as part of individual growth
Confident in tough conversations: can deftly communicate own (and, as appropriate) point of view in contentious conversations

Manages own state in the office to role model positive behaviors for all the staff


Desired Skills and Experience:

- As a Lead Inventor, you will contribute to and manage the day to day execution of these programmes, including:
Input to development of strategic IP, and programme design
Leading complex programmes and managing board-level client relationships
Leading big pitches
Managing quality of our delivery and the team on programmes
On the job coaching and development of junior team members
Contributing to programmes design and proposals
Producing insight and stimulus that will help drive the work
Project and internal resource management
Day to day client service/management
Budget management on programmes
- Translation of strategic thinking into excellent written material
- Regular feedback to team members and clients in to help achieve impact
- Client Management: have experience in managing board-level clients in a breadth of sectors day to day
- Deep Understanding of Marketing and Consumers: solid understanding of marketing and branding strategy combined with wide/deep consumer knowledge and how to interpret consumer insights to develop innovative approaches to problems
- Business & New Product Development: develop fresh thinking and new product development, have the confidence and skills to generate and shape £200k+ opportunities (as opposed to just converting/pitching)
- Strategic Approach to Business: solid understanding of how large organisations work and make money, have an appreciation of what it really means and takes to innovate in a large corporate environment, capable of framing the big picture and using this to drive ideas/approaches, ability to scope the future and use this to win business
- Brilliant Communication Skills: confident on their feet in front of groups of people, good at taking complex concepts and explaining them in a clear, simple and engaging way, concise and persuasive written style, have a range of influencing styles to be applied at various levels
- Excellent Facilitation Skills: great awareness of people and what's going on for them, comfortable and credible thinking on their feet, positive attitude, able to create positive energy in others, happy to be lost and confident you can help a group get through this and out the other side, good at designing and flexing session plans
- Track Record of Delivery: gets a buzz from seeing impact and commits to the bitter end, has delivered change and/or innovation in a commercial environment, can show an understanding of what it takes to make things happen in large corporate environments
- Excellent Relationship Building Skills: professional and inspires confidence, works to win trust, human and authentic, maintains importance of relationship in potentially stressful situations, seeks first to understand, brings positive intent to every situation and individual, can inspire people to work with and for us
- Leadership Skills: taking client’s team through the innovation process with confidence and conviction, contributing overtly to the growth of strong team; nurturing on-going relationships with key clients. A consummate professional - from basics like timesheets to a high level strategic presentation
