Summary:
IHS’ Upstream Research and consulting team in Asia Pacific (“APAC”) delivers advisory services to public and private sector clients, focused in the areas of strategy, new ventures, country risk, commercial and policy work. As part of the growth strategy of IHS, we are looking for Senior Manager to join the APAC upstream team based in Beijing, China.
Candidates for this role should have greater than 7 years’ experience in either an industry or consulting capacity focused on upstream. The candidate should have both strong commercial and technical understanding of the oil and gas industry. First preference will be given to candidates with a strong industry or energy consulting background.
In this role, you’ll take on a combination of responsibilities including: business development, project scoping/planning and delivery, and networking with other industry groups at IHS in order to identify client leads, as well as to generate ideas for consulting delivery. Successful candidates for this role will have strong problem-solving skills, and enjoy seeing the ‘big picture’ while also being able to delve into details, manage databases, and synthesize information.
General Job Duties:
Business Development
? Develop and maintain relationships with existing clients, and also expand our market penetration with ideas to generate new client prospects and identify new market opportunities
? Manage relationships with current clients in China to increase regional knowledge of IHS Energy's capabilities.
? Contact new potential clients in Asia to help grow the upstream research and consulting business, and increase core customer base.
? Provide input to the Practice's marketing strategy and support the development of marketing collateral and presentations.
? Prepare and deliver presentations internally and externally (externally to include professional organizations and forums to present thought pieces and project results).
Consulting Scoping, Planning and Delivery
? Play a lead role in preparing consulting proposals and responding to Requests for Proposals, including articulating project goals and objectives, IHS’ approach the work, staffing plans/workflow strategy, budgets, and the timeframe to deliver while staying within budget.
? Ensure deliverables are on track and within budget, and keep clients informed during and after project completion.
? Engage in the delivery of projects when necessary (research, analysis, development of findings).
? Identify issues and challenges as they arise and present alternative solutions.
? Manage the delivery team’s workstream, and ensure teams deliverables are of the quality, and will meet client specifications.

Research, Upstream Subject Matter Expert, and Product Sales Support
? Enhance collaboration across IHS Consulting and its various business areas to improve competitiveness and market position.
? Support the business development activities of the Product and Inside Sales team within IHS, including identification of new customers and consulting opportunities.
? Provide support and share knowledge with other team members to enhance capabilities and expertise.
? Support, where needed, the China research needs of upstream product offerings in 1. Plays & Basins; 2. Companies and Transactions; 3. Country E&P Terms and Above-Ground Risk.
Qualifications:
Required Education:
? Minimum of Bachelor’s degree necessary
? Preferred in engineering or finance, but not essential.
 Required Experience:
? Working knowledge of the entire upstream value chain.
? Candidates for this role should have greater than 7 years’ experience in either an industry or consulting capacity
? First preference will be given to candidates with a strong industry or energy consulting background.
Other Skills:
? Attentive to detail, good problem-solving skills, thorough understanding of upstream, financial, and economic principles.
? Strong commercial and technical understanding and experience of the oil and gas industry
? Knowledge of upstream critical issues
? Excellent written and oral communication skills.
? Excellent interpersonal skills and intellectual curiosity.
? Demonstrated record of initiative and entrepreneurship.
? Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
Language Skills:
? Fluent in Mandarin Chinese (technical working level proficiency)
? Fluent in English (technical working level proficiency)
Travel:
? Beijing Based
? Ability to travel up to 35% of the time
