Responsibilities and Expectations
*Review drafts of media monitoring reports and trackers
*Demonstrate ability to report media and critically think about how news may influence client *programming, perceptions, positioning, etc.
*Effectively pitch stories via email and verbally to reporters at local market print and broadcast outlets, national radio, industry trades, online and consumer long-lead outlets; effectively secure editor attendance and/or participation in events and desk-side briefings
*Understand and utilize online media effectively as part of the media mix (including social media vehicles/tools)
*Manage level-appropriate media program tactics, identify and prioritize media opportunities, coordinate all aspects of a media interview, sending timely pitch updates, showcasing hits, etc.
*Proactively develop and offer fresh story angles to internal account teams and clients
*Distribute press releases and multi-media content through a variety of channels/mechanisms
*Demonstrate ability to proactively understand and anticipate the needs of a reporter
*Proactively pitch different types of stories to different types of media outlets to expand reporter relationships
*Work with teams to oversee the planning and implementation of multimedia content including liaising with vendors and providing updates to clients/team
*Work with team to develop highlights reels and case studies to showcase results of a range of client programs
*Demonstrate basic understanding of client budget parameters and ability to work within budget including cost of fee/oops for various media projects
*Proactively manage own time and meets weekly billability targets
*Exhibit basic understanding of Edelman business/financial structure
Qualifications
*At least 1 year doing predominantly earned media work
*Must have a solid grasp of all basic public relations tools, and how they affect the client.
*S/he must be able to evaluate and edit the work of interns/junior team members.
*S/he must demonstrate a level-appropriate understanding of the media landscape as well as the clients’ products, markets, personnel, and outside influencers.
*S/he must also have solid research, writing and editing skills, and the ability to continue developing media contacts/relationships
*S/he is expected to have a fundamental understanding of media outreach assignments and apply experience and initiative in assisting to develop appropriate media strategies.
*Firm grasp of AP style
*Ability to integrate clients’ key messages into written and oral communication forms to achieve client objectives
*Ability to effectively manage a number of projects/pitch assignments and seek assistance in prioritizing when needed
*Ability to analyze market research including using online services and begin to share proactive analysis and/or next-steps with account teams
*Understanding of how to compile and showcase media results with proactive analysis of message pull-through, tone of coverage, etc.
