This role is for a platform Senior Development Technologist responsible for the development of cost effective platforms for engine oil applications including Cars, Trucks, Bikes, & Marine applications

The job holder is a pivotal link between product development, procurement and marketing for project Pendulum and Value Engineering.

As such, the job holder will manage the optimisation of existing offers in the market place (for Efficiency) and the assessment of new formulation approaches & platforms to enable deployment of future offers (for Growth). Support for such initiatives as project Pendulum and Value Engineering will deliver optimal Cost of Goods Sold with no negative impact on performance, quality and supply.

The job holder will lead the projects in managing budget, project management including ODIMS, TMS, KMS and stakeholder updates etc.

Formulation Architecture & Platform Development Automotive Powertrain (own)
* Design and deliver the optimal end state for the Auto. and Marine Formulation Architecture (simplify)
* Ensure global/regional adherence to the end state principles & their deployment (comply)
* Deliver on-going year-on-year optimisation via new value opportunities esp. those formally designated as being under Pendulum / Value Engineering (efficiency)
* Interact closely with the development of new polymers and raw material components with a view to leveraging them within new and existing platforms. (growth and efficiency)
* Interact closely with the product development teams to engineer cost effective platforms with potential for cross space application.
* Ensure new platform developments and product developments are fully aligned with the raw material palette and have global application where possible. (comply)
* All new developments must comply with HSSE standards and must not adversely affect the offer.
* Be familiar with intellectual property and wider industry developments pertaining to formulation developments for Automotive and Marine engine oils.

Innovation (own/enable)
* Design, develop and patent new formulation approaches and formulation platforms containing novel components and base stocks as developed by the wider pendulum team.
* Input on design principles & platform prototypes to Product Development
* In conjunction with the longer term R&D group screen and evaluate new platforms for no-harms and performance advantages in novel future technologies e.g. formulating for fuel economy.

Portfolio (inform / own)
* Input to, & support the management of the end state Portfolio for the Auto + Marine segments.
* On-going source of Subject Matter Expertise and thought leadership for the lubes SPU.
* Manage the data in the underpinning processes (in particular Fusion) to ensure new platforms are compliant and effectively implemented.

Procurement & Supply Chain (enable)
* Procurement - minimise cost of goods via formulation design, RFQ processes and on-going supplier trade-offs. Have full alignment with procurement and supply chain on formulation decisions.
* Keep abreast of traditional and new supplier platform developments, compare and contrast with our approach and benchmark where necessary.
* Keep fully informed of developments in additive and base oil supply to advise and inform the wider technical community on selection of raw materials for developments.
* Manufacturing - optimise conversion costs by consolidation and process optimisation.
* Logistics (in-bound & outbound) - maximise volumes in core RMs and minimise SKUs.

Management (lead)
* Manage departmental budget agreed by the Functional stakeholders to deliver these objectives
* Provide external industry input to relevant legislative bodies and specification drivers.


Must been educated to at least degree level in a scientific discipline.

The jobholder will be a high calibre graduate in a scientific discipline, having extensive experience in the lubricant additives area including deep formulation expertise across businesses. Evidence of developing and implementing innovative solutions is necessary.

Previous interactions with functions outside of technology are essential as the job holder needs a keen grasp of the drivers within marketing, purchasing and supply chain functions to ensure the Crankcase formulation architecture deployment derives maximum business value.

They must have strong project management experience in an international area and proven
Record of delivery.

A prime requirement of the job is to understand complex technical options and identify clear technical strategies to deliver optimum commercial answers.

This is a highly matrixed role, so it is essential that the individual is excellent at networking globally, cross functionally and cross hierarchy. They must be able to manage the tension and ambiguity between the different stakeholders, both centrally and regionally. They need to be able to articulate complex technical issues into simple commercial strategies.

The job requires a flexible and creative individual who is able to motivate and manage the stakeholder network to achieve the agreed objectives.
