The Global External Research and Development (GER&D) function is a virtualised R&D group within Lilly that takes an entrepreneurial approach to helping Lilly deliver medicines. This is achieved by seeking commercially viable early and late stage assets for potential in-licensing activities, and by generating additional value from internal Lilly assets via novel financing models in disease areas of high unmet medical need. The group has expertise across the value chain of drug discovery and development, for example in new target identification and mechanisms of disease biology, new platform technologies (inc. Chemistry platforms), in vitro and in vivo models of safety and efficacy, through to early stage clinical development, where it has the ability to take compounds through to proof of concept studies via its Chorus unit.


Job Purpose:

As a representative of the GER&D organisation in China, the successful applicant is expected to:
? Contribute to the development and maintenance of an extensive network with healthcare innovators across the region (e.g. academia, biotech, Venture Capital, peer pharma, government organisations), with the objective to identify and explore potential partnering and collaborative opportunities in alignment with local and corporate partnering priorities.
? Facilitate the identification, evaluation and tracking projects of interest, and maintain accurate records of activity through use of in-house caseload management information systems
? Contribute to the maintenance of a strong communication network with GER&D globally and within Lilly China Research and Development Centre (LCRDC), the Emerging Markets Business Unit (EMBU) and Corporate Business Development (CBD).
? Participate with colleagues in external partnering meetings to support and enhance the company profile as a potential partner of choice within China.


Primary Accountabilities:

Reporting to the Head of GERD China, the successful applicant is expected to support and contribute to the execution of the External Innovation strategy by supporting the activities of GERD, EMBU and the China affiliate as directed.

The key activities of the role will be:

? Support the identification and evaluation of new opportunities:
o Build and maintain (e.g. through the use of external databases) a thorough understanding of the external innovation landscape in China, aligned to Lilly’s areas of interest
o Identify and evaluate opportunities from across the region that align with externalisation strategy and priorities of GERD, LCRDC and the EMBU
o Utilise GERD processes for initial assessment of opportunities, applying knowledge of drug discovery and development to prioritise and triage

? Facilitate the development and maintenance of strong internal networks within Lilly corporate
o Work with stakeholders across GERD, LCRDC,EMBU, and CBD as necessary to support the progress of deals
o Record all relevant information into GERD caseload management information systems
o Provide clear reports and information, updated on a regular basis, to monitor activity and progress against objectives

? Facilitate the development and maintenance of strong external networks to enhance Lilly’s potential for productive business relationships with Chinese companies
o Maintaining formal contact channels with current partners (such as regular meetings to discuss current portfolio and potential new opportunities)
o Identifying and developing contacts and relationships with new potential partners (Universities, Institutions, emerging Biotechs)
o Maintaining high visibility at regional conferences and partnering meetings
o Maintaining an awareness of new and planned regional developments (e.g. new sources of innovation funding; strategic initiatives in new areas of healthcare etc) that could deliver new areas of opportunity


Experience / Knowledge:

? Ideally should have a B.Sc and/or Masters with relevant experience in a scientific discipline related to the pharmaceutical industry
? Basic knowledge of pharmaceutical business and drug development process
? >3 years experience of working in scientific/project management roles in a pharmaceutical company, biotech, or institution involved in early drug discovery.
? Evidence of interpersonal skills required to generate and maintain external networks to support identification and evaluation of new business opportunities
? Maintains an awareness of industry trends and new areas of scientific development
? Excellent English language and communication skills (written and oral)
? Strong database and computer skills
